Orkinstra is a multi-dimensional project celebrating the rare, 221-year co-emergence of two cicada broods. Bryan Rheude composed a 45-minute symphony, XIII x XIX: Cycle of the Cicadas, performed live at the emergence epicenter in Springfield, IL, alongside the cicadas in June 2024. The project involved behind-the-scenes film shoots, a 10-piece orchestral ensemble, and a studio recording, blending music with nature in a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Bach’s Goldberg Variations are one of the towering monuments of keyboard music. Rheude became obsessed with the 31 short pieces after hearing Glenn Gould’s recordings on a stunning audiophile system. He decided to document his journey of learning them all through a series of whimsical videos—one for each variation. Rheude now plays the entire work daily from memory, with plans to perform it live in the near future.
